As if each day would be the last

She was sitting
close to him

who had
five pumps
with streams of morphine
mixing the blood
in order to take
another breath
without screaming
with anguish

She then decided
to start living
fully
the days she had
remaining
until the day
she was allowed
to pass
into the light
