Performing Beliefs

Opening night
Light go up
Curtains rise

The singer
Raises to the
Mic and crowd

Scanning the
Crowd, searching
For two people

While they sit
At home

They're tied up
In ignorance

In beliefs far
Too proud and righteous
To see her perform

The crowd goes quiet

A single sound
Emerges from the stage

A single shallow
Lonesome sweet note

Walking to the edge
Tears sliding down

This was her night
Her night to shine
Alone in this sky

Years pass by
From that one night

Her dreams gone
Living in emptyness

They wait alone
At home
Wondering

Will she ever come back
The girl that haunts
Their memories and photographs
Set up along side their shelves

In the post
They receive

A dvd
Blank

A note
With the letter
J

They play the dvd
And then they see
The one night
They lost her
Let her down

They see her break
See her run from
The stage

She never came back
She never came back

Can you remember
What you believed
In now?
