I found this event upsetting in a complicated way.

A Sad Sight

I am not a fan
Of Christmas.
It is a holiday
Designed
For farmers
With nothing
Much to do with
The harvest in
And snow
On the ground.

We were proles
And had to get
To work
Snow or no snow
Unless we were
On strike
Or laid off
Facing a holiday
Of gift giving
With no money.

It is the capitalist's holiday,
The consumer's holiday,
With just enough
Religious hypocrisy
And saccharine sentimentality
To make you want to be drunk
from Thanksgiving
To Tax time!

Still it was a very
Sad sight,
The little dog,
Dead by the side
Of the road
Dressed in
In a red cape
With bells
Around the collar.

I appreciate the way you held off the image of the dog until the end of the poem. It makes the poem honest, and it shows some patience on your part as a writer, not to use the image to hook the reader, but rather to put a final nail in the coffin of Christmas.
