An apology.

I was never a constant miser,
I hadn't enough to be so bold.
My mind is the only residue
Of the lies I have been told.

A single mallign influence,
Has now stained my every word,
And it has defiled the way
That my whole world works.

Rumour of my indignant past,
Those days I've hidden away.
Followed by a darkened silhouette
Of a deluge that wants to stay.

I'm sorry to have left you here,
I'm sorry to have walked astray.

Poweful piece. I can relate to this in many. A lesson learned. :)

A sombre and thought-provoking piece, my friend.
I like the subtle association of miserliness and lies in the first verse, leading to the theme of deceit as a currency that tarnishes the handler and haunts when attempts are made to conceal. The layers of tension build so effectively that in the final two lines I feel an immense burden lifted, with the repetition particularly effective.
Very well constructed – applause!
