A Starless Night
I don't think it's a look out at the stars sort of night
or even make a wish on a moon so bright it etches
misplaced objects and broken hearts taking flight
it's a moonless night and a starless sky,
the voice on your lips burns with a lie and
I don't see scarlet on a morning horizon.
The vista has narrowed and the cool winds blow,
the ice on the tor, burns, blackening skin with frost
and I move, my body cantered over a wilderness lost.
No, there will no secret trysts, mapping stars
for at this moment, you have never felt so far from me,
I see possibilities but am powerless to act
There is a void, a flaw in the reasoning of love
I am no seasoned traveller, just a refugee in flight,
I would so banish the blackness, press a switch for light,
fly through the window, cotton sheets like streamers
that ace and shriek, brightening the world in lightening streaks.
I do not think that there will be stars out tonight.
