all hallows blues

just passing through
on our way to christmas cheer
november is standing
hat on the pavement
an off-key harmonica

the transient palette
of greys and muddy browns
like a child's set of water colors
after loving use
a hint of fading orange
the green of moss and lichen

a vagrant month
on our way someplace else
a temporary nakedness
of pared-down trees
the street light gleam
off an empty beer bottle

give thanks for the blues
and the silence

This is a gem, though November is my favorite month. Give me twelve Novembers, and I'm happy.

You have an artist's eye for revealing details, a landscape in which there is no one point of reference but many, common things perhaps but composed into one original way of looking at them.

I too think of November in terms of music and fading colors, especially music - Albinoni's achingly beautiful and sad "Adagio in G Minor."

This is such a fitting tribute. You have a narrative style which is picturesque and vivid. Beautifully and powerfully penned. Thankyou for sharing this with us. *applaud*

Regards,
John.
