solemn walk

solemn walk
downtown in the arts district,
all worries cast to the side for now,
hang around town
for a while

i passed a dead cat
on my way home last night -
it lie there, mouth half open
half contemplative, i feel everything
i want to feel nothing

i sip my coffee
as my mind solemnly
wandered back
to the two pennies
i found in the crosswalk
out by the café

Sometimes mortality is just to immediate and wrenching. Feeling nothing is a sometimes healthy preoccupation but unfortunately it is fleeting. Reality is always just around the corner "in the crosswalk out by the cafe".

Nice work,
