Quantum

Will you love me, when its all gone
like dust and shadows on dry ground,
remember when our feet kicked,
the particles of motes,
stuck, crusting in the corners of eyes;
and we lied, each fickle of a feather
tickling, burning shoulders
until we picked and picked
at itchy sores, we forwent the
barrier creams, prevention.
How can you prevent a tear
in the universe of us?

So like strangers who become
familiar on trains, the everlasting
stops and starts, you start with
jocularity, moving to comrades,
then the slow drawing of shades
because you came too close
and the sun always burns at midday.

Will you love me, will I love you?
Our quantum steps; will they
be airbrushed from the annals of time?
Will you walk, our feet
our breath matching in unison?
I think not, the superficiality,
unlike gravity, does not keep
us focused and our tread
is like moon walkers,
you can't touch in space
not skin to skin,
so breath becomes frozen,
lost in the time warp
of you and me but never us.
