Lie a little while next to me

Just lie a little while next to me,
and baby, just for once don't dream,
let our fingers lie entwined,
and morning is so far away.

Let the sheets be the breath of us,
as evening caresses, I take away
the tresses that bind us both,
let me be the mirror in your eyes.

We have no need to touch, I feel,
that dawn will steal and I an ever
optimistic fool, will slip into the cool
wrapped like mummies, an egyptian tomb

So just lie a while my sweet and darling heart
please do not let dreams drift us apart,
for in the morning there will be tears shed
eyes are blind where emotions are lead.

Lie, let us not be shy for tomorrow
is another day, another episode for us to cry,
Oh my one and only love, love me
take the night, shower me reverently

and all the days I will covert in memory short,
my beautiful lie, my beautiful love,
you shoot from my sternum in aching hurt,
oh love, just lie a little while next to me.

There is more than a little something of Millay in this, its subject and sensibility, the ache of love and the need to aassuage it if only for a night, the plea in the last stanza that would make it so. I don't know if you are a fan of ESVL but it is rare for me to find something of her in another writer these days, though thinking about that now I'm not surprised it is you.
