Davy Crockett and Christmas

Sabina has made a Polish cake
And I watch a man in a Davy Crockett hat,
After the wind and rain of last night,
The boat has arrived and all alight.

Miss Twitter is twittering, everyone is flitting,
We intend to get out of here by one.

Last night, I sailed like Mary Poppins
Caught in a gust of wind, the only thing
That kept me weighted, weren't wings
Or even angels singing, just a last minute
Laryngical croak, we've sung our hearts out
And fought the latest bout of panic.

Dominicka sends a text from a ski slope,
She was lucky this year and escaped,
Jenny is knitting and Scott is planning
His dip into the stormy seas tomorrow.

I wonder if the Davy Crockett man's hat
Is really made of raccoon tails, I wonder
At the Christmas tales, the midnight
Chatter of animals and elves, perhaps
A ghost of Christmas past and present
Shall glimpse a sigh for the future.

The wind and rain have died down,
The boat has sailed into the marina,
The Christmas nuts and spices
Shall soothe a throat tonight.

Maybe that's why many people cherish the Christmas holiday: getting to it is so arduous.

Melodic straight to the heart, and great to the eye, with pop culture, and moving seas, this piece is great art

Love the whimsy, love the poem.

Raccoon. Coon-skin cap.

I haven't thought of old Davy in sixty years . . . his personal motto was "be sure you're right, and then go ahead" . . . as I got older I realized how ridiculous that was, how we're almost never sure we're right.
