New Year Snow

The forecast - two below zero tonight and more snow, four below tomorrow night.  I'll not see anyone for days.

And still the snow falling and filling, yet

Drifting only into deeper disappearance,

Accumulating into the season's absence of

Definition - the sky and the snow now one

Whiteness and there is no horizon to mark

Where it is we might have set out for to see

Things differently, brief light only the blur of

Endless glacial glare, the stark trees so thin

They can hold neither light nor the snow -

Even staying where we are we are lost in

This expanse of utter abstraction, hearing

Nor making any sound but the saying of

This poem in the lonely winter solitude.

The nature of solitude has been redefined by the internet. Whether it has alleviated or intensified the loneliness I wonder.

Well said, Fog. That's how it feels here in Nebraska.

A stillness falls upon me as I read these lines, attention to detail as always capturing my imagination. It's been a long time since I experienced such snowy intensity in my own world, but this poem revives my memories with its imagery. I like the formatting and I hope you have a sturdy hot water bottle. Applause!
