basic bread
basic breadone imagines
pandemonium sullying
tranquil day
midst unloosed loins of still
-- virgin world
chaotic spleandours
unknown outcomes
frantically festooned filigree
-- perfect braids falling from
maidens' radiant hair
notions of wire-barbed
strung as death pearls
-- born in nightmarish
dark -- bomb-maker's dreams
plodding power plays
wishes to control
usurping still-born freedom
in wombs -- not yet delivered
souls' wishes for peace
envisaged again and again
-- revoked repayment
disavowalled respite
-- recreant leaders' rebukes
unnecessary barbarity
crossing -- crumbling
crowds' empty hands
holding no basic bread
empty -- bellies
tears fall -- on
anguished earth-dust
a drop
at a time.
