A Piece of Paradise

We had a piece of paradise for a while,
yet in our hearts we knew it couldn't last
mocking gods, making an inch curve into a mile

Yet in a stock of memories I will file
and know I wish to marry future, past
We had a piece of paradise for a while

I never dreamt, that words would turn hostile
I couldn't eat or tempt of hearts repast
mocking gods, making an inch curve into a mile

and then from your touch, I would revile
turn my cheek to the moon that lent its cast
we had a piece of paradise for a while

and bitter words rise in our gorge like bile
star crossed lovers, oh so miscast
mocking gods, making an inch curve into a mile

Yet in time, I will return to reminiscent smile
savour tastes and songs, hear softness not a rasp
we had a piece of paradise for a while,
mocking gods, making an inch curve into a mile

I would quote so many lines of this as my favorite! A piece of paradise, indeed... right on spot, just speaks to me in ways I could never describe adequately. Excellent poetry...
