POOR COUNTRYSIDE GIRL
The last of eleven childrenDad laid to rest before mom
My meal a bowl of broth
Saving face, rice the same
Some now and a bit for later
Scavengers to bottom feeders
Rides for the price of my sanity
Taunting jeers try to perplex me
Plan the future at my expense
Food for today very little money
I'm a poor countryside girl
So go easy on me
A poor countryside girl
I'll follow if you'll have me
Love on a platter for the asking
Please go easy on me
I'm just a poor countryside girl
So go easy on me
Earth craters bury the unknown
Their clothing set a cocktail's wick
Pennies with a hole worth much
Lucky being a message in a bottle
Fate left up to hide and go seek
Graduated just before the bombing
Childless and unable to share birth
Set aside like peas, a child's dismay
Wearing one sandal so I rid the other
Without a father I search full-time
I'm a poor countryside girl
The last of its kind
So keep this in mind
I'm a poor countryside girl
Your best friend in confidence
Love on a platter for the asking
So go easy on me
I'm just a poor countryside girl
A poor girl
Countryside girl
Ready to wife
Countryside girl
A poor girl
Seeks a new life
Countryside
Countryside
Poor countryside girl
