My baby had a bad dream and this is how the story went!
In the flesh not even close
The thought of acquaintances?
To chance seeing you once a month
I'd even settle for next door neighbors
Your bedroom across the courtyard
Saw you through your kitchen window
The girl you held cute as December
Watched you unwrap, loose her ribbon
Loss for words
Sounds never heard
Expecting a fastball
He throws a curve
Boy I'm lost for words
Say, some guy dropped by, an old flame
He brought me a green leaf clover of four
And a rabbit's foot on a long golden chain
He kisses with both eyes wide open
Then says this is just his way of jokin'
Between you and him, forks in the road
Ya know I feel like a fool 'round nine
After thirty sips of my favorite wine
And wouldn't ya know it, mother calls
Trying to play it off, a cold with a cough
What the hell, now daddy wants to talk
How's the new job, when is the wedding?
My pride wouldn't tell him the news
Just like a woman mother had a clue
Better sorry than years of playing safe
Lost for words
Sounds never heard
Expecting a fastball
He throws a curve
Boy I'm lost for words
If we're gonna breakup and separate
Then promise me we'll soon makeup
Hey baby, ain't that what true lovers do?
The grass was greener on the other side
But it needed tending and mending too
A bus station going in neither direction
Dreamed we were lovers
In the flesh not even close
The thought of acquaintances?
