You will remember

When you walk by some little girl on the road,
you will remember.
When she pulls out her tongue and smirks at you,
it will hit you then, the memory of a girl who refused to grow up.

Time has been cruel to both of us,
turning you into your definition of a man,
and leaving me that same little girl who threw tantrums,
who made faces and smiled and laughed.

Things that you do not care for anymore.
Of course you should want a woman,
one who would have a sophisticated sheen,
high heels, designer dresses and make-up,
instead of worn out shirts and jeans.
A woman who would look good in your arms,
the perfectly poised trophy in your life.

Now you have grown tired of me,
tired of my mannerisms and weaknesses,
weary of my spirit and my lack of tact.

I understand and let you go.
Why should I fight for something you do not want anymore?
I have come to terms with the fact that I am no longer needed,
cast aside without remorse.

You will remember, in time,
all the things we used to be,
and then perhaps recognize and mourn
the demise of something that was simply beautiful.
