Parachuting

Enough was long ago,
years have rolled
and I am older
facing my reflection,
if I think,
it will be too much.

But I do it anyway,
backwards I go
free falling
parachute opening wide
thoughts hanging
waiting longer
to jump the synaptic gap.

But today is alright,
vaguely dangling reflections
blur into the mundane
this time I don't crash land,
think on....

Years ago I made parachute jump. On my record of the jump. Is written: He did not jump out was not pushed. He fell out the air plane.

I love the images and how you wrote this. Very original way to reminisce a life fully lived, and being lived.

I enjoyed this. It never occurred to me that, even when doing something so wild, one ends up thinking the same old thoughts.

As a pilot jumping out of an plane is abhorrent to me! But this poem is an analog and one I find very personal at that level. Chances taken and consequence received. As Jim says, maybe its a virus we've all caught here or maybe 'tis the season? I enjoyed this from you.

Best regards,

Joe

Yea! Worth the wait, but this "looking back," it must be a virus going around, we've all got it, at least those of us of "a certain age."

Kidding aside, this is touching, and: "But today is alright," and "think on...." are the two sides of it, summed up perfectly.

And to think it was only a few minutes of life passing before one's eyes! I've been meaning to go on a second dive, it's been a few years now. A rush of a poem, and stirring up my own memories as well. Thank you.
