The zip in a morning nip
I used to zip everywhere,a flash, even (dare I say)
a girlish giggle and then
I fell in love with a bone shaker
with basket filled with yorkshire terriers,
I loaded my basinet with fruit
and a fresh baguette,
we took picnics
high up on the hill, under the pines
watched matchbox cars
while a terrier barked
and nipped at wasp stung apples.
I used to nip in and out of traffic,
I was a haze, a glaze in the eye,
then I mounted sedately
a high seated, deluxe model
and rode with grace through lanes,
a terrier with his nose raised,
brushed back hair, he was a cool guy.
I would park, take hessian out
and allow the canine dance
as he greeted snootily the hoi poloi.
We would partake of espresso
a saucer of café au lait for his highness,
then mount our steed
and ride like maniacs home.
