Been a While
It has been a while since I've seen yousitting there catching flies
your lizard eyes magnified
expounding on topics
and the lascivious way
you lick your lips
as if
each fly was a delicate morsel
I never really said
that I have no care
for astrophysics
and as for crop circles
I prefer to think
that little men
after dark,
like morris dancers
created them
but of course you wouldn't understand that
sitting there,
the tips of your ears
covered in sunscreen
and that hat with a veil
as if you could ever keep bees
your allergies
creating and endless drip
like the slops on pavements
outside fast food restaurants
and seedy bars
you drop stones
into conversations.
So it has been a while,
the flies are out,
and a sticky tongue
is not in evidence,
I gave your books
to the hospice shop
sold your shoes
to the cobbler
and the man up the street
who does keep bees
leaves the odd jar
on my doorstep
and I haven't the heart to say
that I don't like honey
but I do like the freedom
to have wild imaginings
and burdeoning passions
are fun, sitting in the sun
under a green parasol
that gently twists in the breeze
as I pod beans and peas
and marvel at the colour
of the fresh aubergine.
