On Parasites

I wonder things quite frequently. One of the most predominant things that has been in my head recently are parasites. Why do they even exist? The default answer would be population control, but when we already, each of us, have the potential to kill something, or even many things, why do we need a small bug to feast on us? You walk out the door and smack a bug on your neck. BAM! Confronted by death. You keep on walking and you see some roadkill on the road. BAM! More death. You read in the newspaper about a car bomb exploding in Iraq. BAM! More death! With all of this despair, destruction, death, and natural murder, you wouldn't think we would need parasites. But I guess, in some way, we do. Just something to think about...

Good observation and good question!
That was really bothersome - parasites.
But I guess there is some elaborate role they play in the complex foodweb.
It's funny how the same organisms inhabit creatures that glow in the dark - their interaction within the bodies of the host organism produces luminescence - when you think about it - fireflies must go throw a lot in order to light up their world.....
