Summer, Sweet Season of My Heart
Summer came softly that year.It whispered itself across my mind.
Fleeting in its stay, it passed as a breeze,
leaving only memories behind.
your face,
a place,
a time
for lovers to embrace
Oh, Summer, sweet season of my heart
Entwined as the ivy upon the wall
with supple bodies, we loved desperately.
As the scent of jasmine filled the night,
we gave of ourselves totally.
The moon hid its face behind the clouds
giving us the solitude of a summer's eve.
Soothed by the warmth of an elusive wind,
we rested quietly, never wanting to leave.
your face,
a place,
a time
for lovers to embrace
Oh, Summer, sweet season of my heart
We were caught up in the moments of now
never realizing the passing of time.
We were as blossoms over the arbor
never knowing the existence of the vine.
Silently, the days eclipsed from one to the other.
Like the flutter of hummingbird wings,
rapidly, unseen, purposfully time moved
revealing what tomorrow would bring.
your face,
a place,
a time
for lovers to embrace
Oh, Summer, sweet season of my heart
The storm welled up over the mountains.
Dark skies loomed as death was born
ripping the rose into pieces
leaving only the trembling thorns.
You left me in the chill of autumn.
After the warmth of summer, you died
Alone in the cold darkness of winter,
I laid by your body and cried.
your face,
a place,
a time
for lovers to embrace
Oh, Summer, sweet season of my heart
