in the moment

floridian winter nights,
the gentle lull of the river
and the kiss of the cool breeze

floridian winter nights -
downtown art festivals
and nostalgic memories
(nostalgia is the essence of christmas)

we try to create new memories
while holding on to the old ones,
in the end, memory is all that we have
but it's corrupted by nostalgia -
nothing is truly as we remember it

floridian winter nights,
street light reflections
in the peaceful river,
and inked paper

nostalgia pairs with expectations
and reality can't cope anymore,
but it's all in the head really,
we never really knew what was real
except in the moment

Personally, and at my age, I think nostalgia is a wonderful thing, though I do agree that it can subtly change our memories and make of them what we now wish a place and moment had been rather than exactly what they had been. Your last two lines are very true.
