HERO

You family waits for you on the tarmac
And watch as your body is brought home
Tears fall from their eyes
The honor guard carries you with care
All I can do is stare
They place you gently in the hearse
I reach for a tissue in my purse
People line the streets to say goodbye
They will never know you were such a great guy
People cheer and salute and call you a hero
Motorcycles lead the precession
Motors rumbling like helicopter blades
they want everyone to know the price you paid
They lead you to your final resting place
A flag folded with the greatest of care
Given to your family with honor they bare
Down on one knee the general kneels and shows much respect
Then stands straight up with much affect
Powerful salute he gives
Then the general says "your son is a hero"
Your family smiles as tears run down their faces
Our hero is in his final resting place
