A friend wanted to me to write this for someone who served as a door gunner in the Vietnam war

GUNNER

A man in the door" gunners were often known
No one knows how many missions they've flown
Helicopters flying over water and trees
Gunners at the ready, to give those triggers a squeeze
Flying through the air, they sit there with much unease.
Door gunners weren't expected to live very long lives
So many days they are happy to just survive
They have a really tough job not many could do
It took every ounce of courage just to make it through.
So many missions flow for the year.
Every day loading a ton of ammunition and gear
Machines mounted on the side of the plane
Sometimes having to fly through the rain.
Being a door gunner you put your life on the line every day.
One wrong move and the ultimate price you will pay.
Door gunners job to help protect the soldiers on the ground
From the time the helicopters touch down.
Gunners such an important part of the war, will always be known as the "man in the door"

Those who take part in war see them selfs as survives - not even as heroes - thats for word they say is for others to be calld - medals - fetch a bob or two/ a doler or so - for grand kids to look at play with - vetreans - a word used when looking fore reinforcements - to reinforce - the new recrutes - for the army for the next batles to come - vets an after thought - affter the wars - BS - of the politicians - to spill out on T V!
