These are just thoughts I wrote down. I don't think this a very good poem.

soldiers are soldiers

Soldiers are soldiers today or long ago
So many not given the choice, they had to go
Stories told like it was yesterday
You could see the pain in their eyes
Til this day some still cry
Battles fought in foreign lands
Some of their buddies never made it off the sands
So many memories soldiers never forget
Saying they owe their buddies a great debt
Didn't know if he would survive
His buddy got him home alive
Soldiers are soldiers and will fight no matter what the cost
We just need to remember those who were lost
Battles are long over and memories still remain
Some soldiers lives are never the same.
They look at for each other even at home
Soldiers are soldiers and will never be alone.

What you write of is a solidarity that goes beyond politics, race and after time even country. And it is so true. Our Australian ANZACS fought the Turks in the first world war but had great respect for them and understood that they too were soldiers. Doing what their country expected of them bravely and without question. Yes soldiers are soldiers. Well done.

Your poetry belongs to you and is your creation--your baby. At least, that's how I feel about mine, especially when writing about such a heart, soul, mind subject that perhaps you have experienced in some way.
This poet bay is a safe place to come and write out your words of expression. Feel free and at ease to write without fear of judgement. Poetry is art. Art is a matter of taste, of understanding, of the eye of the beholder.
Your poetry brought to my mind scenes of deserts and jungles and oceans far far away. I felt the feeling of botherhood, and fear, and courage. Through your words, I can see the pain, the loss, the gratitude of the soldiers one for another.
In short, your poetry helped me "see" and experience, in a way, what it might be like to be a soldier. Art is creating life in away. And you did. Thank you for sharing your poetry.

Don't be so critical of yourself. I like your poem very much. Of course we'd all prefer it if there were no need for soldiers and we could all live in peace, but sadly that's not so--at least for now. So, we'll remember the ones who have died and suffered and continue to hope for peace. Very heartfelt and sincere.

I agree that this is very good and a difficult subject to tackle.
Everything you said is true. Right resent how soldiers are brainwashed into doing what they do then they sort of wake up to the reality of what they have done and are forever haunted when they return.

This work of yours is VERY VERY good - soldiers - among what they have in common - and have had down the years is they look out fore each other - watch each others back.
