Puffing away

Smokey Rings

Breathing in this cold dry air
Breathing in the smells
Breathing in the moments
Breathing in the days
The mornings and the afternoons
Breathing in the cities
Breathing in the bays
Breathing in
Breathing in
With this night as my company
I breathe out
I breathe out
These white Rivers of smoke

I see a wish arising
To swim in these puffy waves
I gently move into them
Trusting these smokey puffs
To take me safely
To the bank on the other side
Or with them to the shore

Why doesn't the wish leave me
Alone With myself
The puffs please take
The wish away with you
And leave me here
With My fingers curled
And clinging
Calming my craving

This is a very intense poem. The pain of the moment jumps out and stays with the reader. Very well done.
