as you were softly walking you sang

there's not much to say really
no fluid glowing praise
a poet's talent turned liquid glass
excessive turn of verbiage

wasn't in so many words
you showed your measure
mettle and pure metal
24 carat gold
(which is a hefty rock too
of the purest water)

all I can say with certainty
what I witnessed

as you were softly walking
you sang

I enjoyed reading this very elusive poem. Grasping its purpose is its meaning and the cleverness of the words forming thoughts and ideas, moving one to cling to the title which is also the last phrase. Thus, mettle is determined by what is seen. Or, as biblically taught, "by their fruits, ye shall know them."

So, "as you were softly walking you sang," would indicate the mettle or weight of character more than any poetic musing according to you, the author of this poem. :)

Katarina a fine work. Wonderful images and comparisons.
