paradise of parasites

whores,
jogging down
the road
near ocean paradise

some of them have tramp stamps
and some of them have
large asses,
but when they smile,
they show their teeth
to passers-by
in shiny, expensive, red and black
sports cars

(they show shiny white teeth,
others show
rotting diseased
mouths and minds)

the winos sleep under bridges
and addicts shoot up
in public shit houses

people who can afford it
give their money
to the whores,
people who can't afford it
give their money
to bars and liquor stores
and landlords
and mortgage brokers
and loan sharks

but that's the basic
mechanics of daily life,
after all -
the world is
a spawning ground
for addiction,
pleasure and sorrow,
contempt and love,
excess and neediness
(in short,
slavery)

the ocean town
is a paradise of parasites
waiting to pounce
on the weakest
of society's slaves

A very harsh look at life that we like to pretend it doesn't exist.
Bravo! Well done.
