Current Mood:  anxious, needing advice...

Current Music:  (none)

NOTE:  2021 03 06  22H15 EST  How would you go about it? -

How would you go about it?

I think my new upstairs neighbors

Might be body-building elephants

Who spend their time dropping

The weights to the floor...

Even when they walk around,

The light fixtures rattle.

I really don't know what they're

Doing up there, but it's noisy

As all hell down here, if not

Outright seizingly loud to make

You jump out of your skin.

If it's not dropped heavy objects,

It's spectacular blow outs with

Their child who must be throwing

Herself around the room in a tantrum,

In screaming fits of anger that resonate.

At first, we were worried for child abuse,

But quickly heard the nature of the screams

Only stem from an angry child blowing up.

Still, a lot of banging, dragging, dropping

And knocking on a constant basis, it's

Becoming nerve-wracking to get startled

So frequently just spending time home.

How do I broach the subject with them?

At least for the dropping of heavy objects.

My fear is to create ill-feelings between us.

It's so far from my intentions, but this is

Becoming problematic, and needs to stop,

Or at the least, be improved considerably.

I really need your advice on this one.

How would you go about it?

Oh, that's sad to hear. Going through so many suggestions posted by fellow web-poets here, I'm sure you applied some of them, and I hope the problem has been solved.

Sending you positive thoughts & vibes,
Bibek

Ah a problem, I have to agree with shells, although I am a bit of a Thomas and tend to just grumble to myself as I hate confrontations of any kind - but I think shells is right to affect an introduction and mention that sounds do carry.

Hope it works out as noisy neighbours can be draining

Oh no I have the same problem with my neighbor's dow stairs. Some time at 3am they are fighting or kids screaming. That why I stay most of the time with my mom

Like Tom, I'm familiar with your situation. I once lived beneath somebody who seemed to like playing marches after he or she got off of work at midnight. I don't remember how I coped. I probably just moved away. I was quite nomadic in those days.

Make some noise back. Extra loud music or something else. It will give them the realization that being noisy is annoying. :D

shells
Bite the bullet knock and an introduction on the basis of mutual new neighbours and a polite request of a little less noise and a "hope you can't hear us as we can hear you" just got to be honest and sooner rather than later. Easy for me to say though!

try to find which sites they are on, make a false profile and try to solve the problem

Consider this; an invitation to have them visit you as new neighbours coupled with a light discussion about how these old buildings were never designed with sound proofing and that as a result you can hear their conversations which you assume they would consider private. That may reset them and the blame for the problem becomes not them but the building.

It has been a long time, but I know the feeling and sympathize mightily.

Surely the way to begin is with a conversation, non-confrontational.

Oh, very sorry to hear of this! But I'd be the last person to ask. I tend to just seethe and rage internally, and daydream of inflicting bodily harm. Has your other half offered any kind of suggestions, or broached the topic with the neighbours? It does sound quite distressing and difficult to endure. My sincerest sympathies.
