life

my life
on reflection
feels empty

friends tell me
I am wrong

I'm not sure
remembering
so well the walks along
frothered waves
in lonely bays
full of mystery
and excitement

or times together
when the world stopped
longer than we felt

I don't know

can we live on memories
alone
our life
emptying
past memories
future so uncertain

so what
I say to myself
I'm still here
aren't I

live life in the present
live life in the past too
that's future
isn't it?

Thanks for sharing Peter
Not only do I agree with what has been said before.
I feel at one with this poem as though I've achieved
Nothing.

I think that the main reason why life begins to feel empty as we age is that we cease to encounter things which are unexpected.

A nice one, Peter. I feel your poem will resonate with readers - especially those of more mature years. A commonality we all share for some strange reason. Some call it nostalgia, but as everything we have experienced has melded us into what we are today, it is perhaps only to be expected that we should attempt to rationalise in this way. Blessings, Allen

I enjoyed this poem and the final stanza rang true, seemed to because of my advancing years.

How can we not have such thoughts? You expressed them simply, with honesty and elegance. Thank you for sharing,
