I wrote this when one of my friends kept complaining about a group that sat at a table next to ours durring lunch, but no one wanted to move. I sat right next to her. Yet she didn't seem to realize that I was exactly like them, even if I wasn't sitting

So-called Friends

I always thought you were better
Than the self-centered sort.
I guess I just didn't realize
That the ball's switched courts.

We used to get along so well,
But things are different now.
I don't know you anymore,
And honestly I don't know how.

Where did it all start to change?
Was it you, or me?
In the end maybe our friendship
Just wasn't meant to be.

I've tried to ignore the things you say
About those you differ from
You complain and rant to no end,
And I see where this has come.

In the end I'm just like them,
But you don't seem to care.
That or you just don't notice,
Which really isn't fair.

We're supposed to be friends,
And yet you still don't see.
When you complain about them,
You're complaining about me.
