This is a poem by my father Amos Lockhart that he wrote while in the hospital in 1972. He was 65 at the time

I Heard God Speak Tonight

I heard God speak tonight,
Not in a dream or spirit of fright.
For the silent voices from the starry sky
Kept saying so plainly, "Here am I."

I heard God speak today
Thru' a window to my romm of a hospital stay.
Tho' my human weakness had gone to its length,
The beautiful scenery seem to say,
"Lean upon the Lord, He'll renew your strength"

I heard God as I looked at the hills and trees,
The buildings, the streets, spoke thru' a breeze,
"I am God of the mountain, the field and land.
I sat them in place then created man."

While the heavens declare the glory of God
And all creation is set in motion by a sacred nod,
Then why should I not trust tho' I troubled be,
When His great hand is reaching out to help
This creature, even me.
