BRENT LIBURYS CLOSEING

Brent , libraries closing down ,

Saddest cut of all ,

Guverrnmant gos on and on ,

About more and more leave school ,

Unable to read ,

Turn of the last century libraries opened ,

Mark Twain in 1900 opened Kensal Rise library ,

To fanfares , cues formed to take out books ,

That before had been denied them ,

Now all the great writers were now available free ,

Dickens , Shakespeare , The Bronte Sisters ,

And all , and all ,

Now the council closing six of twelfth library's ,

The war on culture intensifies

Our "civilisation" is going full circle Ken. What goes around comes around, and every great civilisation destroys itself.
Good read.

What would we do without Libraries?! I was fortunate as a boy to have a magnificent Victorian Library close by to my school and another where I lived. I can't begin to count the hours I spent there. The whole smell, atmosphere and sacrosanct quietness of these wonderful places gave me my love of literature. Yes, modern technology is all devouring (I admit I am never without my personal e-reader) but nothing can ever replace that tingle of anticipation when you pick up a real book for the first time.

Thanks for sharing these thoughts with us Mr Williams. Much appreciated and enjoyed

Lack of money and the internet are taking a toll on libraries everywhere. But there is something about actually holding a book, touching the pages and not a computer screen, sometimes finding a marginal note or underline that someone has left behind that makes you realize that someone was touched by what was written, sitting in the somber and almost religious silence between the shelves of the greatest books ever written . . . nothing can replace that, and the young will never know what is being lost.
