slow freeze

meet me at that glacial place
between the steps and the stairs

there you'll find me
in a plush wolverine collar
to catch my frozen breath

no fangs visible
claws retracted
a black warm nose

meet me in a snowy morning
and run with me

in the crystal air

until we slowly  grow cold
and hot

Wolverine fur has the propensity of staying fluffy even when covered with frost, hence the collar. But wolverines are also related to ferrets, ermines and otters, playful carnivores.
The poem would have worked with wolves in any other season

The wonderful joy of winter cold and snow. It has a clensing and enervating affect on me and, from his poem, on you also.

Wolverine was an interesting choice. They are coming close to extinction here; we've destroyed or polluted much of their habitat. I hate to think my grandchildren may know of them only in poems.
