argot of misery

argot of misery

street speech
argot of misery

speaking death sentence
of poverty, abuse, paranoia, fear,
hatred, avarice, thievery,
restlessness, cruelty, and outrage--

deadly language of misery
speaking an end game –
more of the same

disguising itself in
tattered rags –
of debasement and misfortune

an orthography
only the street knows
etymology older than pyramids –

told in present tense

whispered in daylight
sounded aloud in night's blackness –

what genteel societies
teach the poor
as vocabulary –

of defiance,
and defense

a thunderstorm language
conceived in lightning flashes –

spoken in thunderous cataclysm
with no roof of protection –

soaked to skin words – shivering --
uttered by the miserable

stalking streets – looking
for some light.

Such a sad poem, and unfortunately there's so much truth in it.
That so many people live under those conditions in a rich country that doesn't take care of its people. Well expressed.
