This was inspired by a cheap balloon I saw at a store that fits the description of the balloon in the text.


she and i

as i recall,
we hadn't seen one another
for years
when she showed up on my doorstep
that night
with one of those cheap balloons
with a plastic stick on it

the balloon was decorated
with colorful flower decorations
and had the words "feliz cumpleaños"
written on it
in very decorative script

i don't speak no spanish
and neither does she,
but we understand one another,
she and i
(i don't think it was even my birthday
on that occasion,
as i recall)
