This is about love and uses the concept so beautifully expressed by William Blake in His poem 'Jerusalem' I introduce it here, yet there are loves beyond the love of ones country.
I Will End My Days In Indiana by M.A.Meddings
The poem I wrote follows after my introduced poem by William Blake I hope you enjoy both.
Jerusalem
By William Blake
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
I will End My Days In Indiana
by M.A.Meddings
I have walked upon Englands Mountains green
And the holy lamb of god I have oftimes seen
And I countenance Jerusalem amongst the dark satanic mills
When I heard Churchills speeches after Dunkirque I became stiired
Such that my sword did not sleep in my hand
Rather I would stand with my nation and fight them in the hills
And on the beeches and on the landing grounds
And if it be so, fight them alone
We would never surrender, never surrender
Yet love of country takes second place to a deeper love
That's why I will end my days in Indiana
For you are the sunshine of my days in all your ways
you are the lightest of evening breezes
Touched with the scent of Jasmine
You are a fragrant flower that I see every hour of my being
You are my love you are my passion you are very life itself
Nothing goes beyond you in my heart
You are a part of me you are the love within me
you are my destiny
That's why I will end my days in Indiana
