Thank God for sanctuary in these troubled times

Sanctuary

It is good to be here once again
Beneath these aged eaves and darkened beams
Upon an ancient polished flagstone floor
With a soft fire in the grate and gleaming brasses
On the walls reflecting sconced muted golden light

Safe at last and far away from the everyman's
Teaming chaotic reigns and hateful mauling winds of war
Once more among my own who with me here
Feel the kindred hidden bonds of love and life

To walk below this stuping portal and find this
Wonder here as memory has served me well
To be welcomed with shy smiles rough hugs
Calming embraces and gentle touch
These fair loves of mine ask not where I've been
But rather simply say
It's good to have you back

Now to restore the power needed
to sally forth yet again unimpeded

A bittersweet poem. The last lines indicate that you'll only be home for a while.

I really loved this, I think for me it rings true, the folding into family no questions asked. The opening stanza is so inviting and to be invited into your sanctuary is lovely.

whether this is literal or metaphorical doesn't matter. you've described a place of true sanctuary, and given thanks for it.

welcome home, wherever that may be.
