Who are you calling a dinosaur?
They say that birds are descended from dinosaurs,That T. Rex is now T. Robin, but I saw robin
This morning and he didn't look that fierce
As he took my daily offering of mealworms.
Then I peered at a neighbour's tree and
Do you know what?
I suddenly realised that trees, not birds,
Are descended from dinosaurs:
We just haven't been able to see
Them for the trees, as it were.
And the proof of my theory?
Well, look at the bark - doesn't it
Remind you of reptilian skin?
Look at the branches - don't they
Remind you of lashing tails,
Especially when it's windy?
And don't ignore the exposed roots -
Can't you see evidence of thick,
Almost elephantine nails?
I know what you're thinking:
Too much alcohol with his cornflakes again,
But please go outside now and stare at
A tree and look at the signs, look at the signs.
Ignore the birdsong, don't be fooled by
The jays or the finches or, indeed, T. Robin,
Birds are not the evolutionary answer,
No, believe me when I declare that
The birches, the redwoods, the spruces
And all things arboreal are actually...
DENDROSAURI!
