Rest in Peace
Delicate, frail flower
Of song and poetry,
You stood before us
And told us
It was your last.
You bared your soul.
We listened
In disbelief,
Then belief,
As we saw
The tightness
Of your knuckles,
Bent towards
The microphone,
Your head bowed
In devotion
To all the gods
And to the audience.
You worshipped us
With your music,
Offering your prayers
To your devoted
Followers.
You stood before us
And told us
It was your last
And now
It has come to pass.
We are bereft,
Your loss is so great
But your legacy,
Even greater.

For Leonard Cohen
Delicate, frail flower
Of song and poetry,
You stood before us
And told us
It was your last.
You bared your soul.
We listened
In disbelief,
Then belief,
As we saw
The tightness
Of your knuckles,
Bent towards
The microphone,
Your head bowed
In devotion
To all the gods
And to the audience.
You worshipped us
With your music,
Offering your prayers
To your devoted
Followers.
You stood before us
And told us
It was your last
And now
It has come to pass.
We are bereft,
Your loss is so great
But your legacy,
Even greater.
