Speechless

We float on the water
Like rubber ducks,
Bobbing in the eddies.
I see a pair of feathered ducks,
one brown the other shimmering
In the late light.
They glide through the water
Moving together and apart
Dipping their beaks down,
Bottoms up, fishing.
Responsive, animated,
Their quacking low like a murmur
In feathered throats.
The pond keeps me buoyant
But something is missing
My efforts not met
I, spinning, catch sight of a fellow rubber duck
Panicked painted-eye meets
painted-eye
WE'RE RUBBER DUCKS - WE'RE
RUBBER DUCKS we shout and holler
We look to brother duck but
he is silent, yellow body bobbing,
did he even hear us?

Notes:
I struggled with a title for this. (Inanimate? Illusion? No progress? Bah!) Suggestions welcome.

The title is good and so is the piece. It has a beautiful feeling of connection between the two worlds so that each becomes blurred into the other. Great work.

I don't have any suggestions for a title. Just wanted to say: well done!

How about 'Speechless'?

I like the image of rubber ducks longing to 'shout and holler'. it made me feel aloneness.
