The latest modern take on a water song.

The Lock-keeper's Daughter

From the Mersey to the Thames,
I've steered the navigations,
I know all the towpaths' names,
But forget Love's assignations.

I played the lovelorn fool
From Leeds to Liverpool,
And refused a marriage hand
On the frozen Union Grand.

I showed a bargee's unction
To a maid on the Grand Junction,
And to Cupid refused to yield
On the frozen Macclesfield.

I flew a lovers' pennant
For a girl on the Kennet,
But lowered my desire
On the frozen Shropshire.

For wherever I might roam,
My heart stays at home,
Kept by the lock-keeper's daughter
On the balmy Bridgewater.
