Bend In The River

A picnic in a valley
Where the river snakes and bends
With the sun blessed smiling hilltops
Looking down on us as friends

A stone bridge led to wonder
At the swirling dark beneath
The trembling ferns stooped low to kiss
In reverential wreath.

A stream of running laughter
Bubbling down the riverside
The stoic stone of evermore
Approvingly replied

How I long to still belong
Within that warm embrace
And wish our youthful spirits
May still dance around that place.
