see the resemblance

given anything

i'll never be what i hoped i would be

the truth often stings

and so   what would i be if   if anything were possible

what would you be if   if anything were possible

if there were no limitations

i thought perhaps a violinist would suit me

or cartoonist   i know i'd be taller   less self-conscious

less eager to please

i would spend less time alone   have more friends

given that   given all the possible what-ifs

in the end i know   given anything

i would be a squirrel   and you   now that you're done laughing

what would you be   given anything   given such a gift

and if we laugh   so much the better   we do so companionably

What a door opener and with such appeal. I am drawn in with the possibilities and enchanted by the squirrel. I am more consumed with thinking about all the qualities of squirrel life than I am my own choices. Given anything...I must meditate a long time on this-- if I can just get past the squirrel.

Love the lightheartedness with possibly a serious twist. I'd be a writer of a bestseller and if I were an animal, I'd choose a cat, a well looked after cat, they have the life of Riley.

Enjoyed your poem. I like that squirrel pic.
I would just like to be more educated than I am.

If; one of the most powerful words in any language! I love the way you expound on it. A great choice in "squirrel " a charming, industrious and pleasant animal and the ultimate tease to dogs!

Should I choose to be other than what I am it would probably be "water" I have no explanation for why.

A lark, no question.

I would without a doubt be a dolphin living under and swimming great distances in the sea. Diving deep into the darkness and jumping out for joy on the sunny surface, then undulating up and down sliding on the water.
But, if I had to be a human, I would like to be a traveller so I would never claim any country as my own. I don't mean a tourist. I would live in each country until I understood its culture and knew my way easily, then I would move to another. Thanks for the dream, jim.

you talk about yourself as if you were beyond limits, in a way you are dreaming
