our nature

at first the beach was crowded

later

after the chill it was not

i stayed

you stayed   i did not know you then

~

facing south   aldebaran   rigel   betelgeuse

sirius   procyron

pollux   castor   capella   we listened

i called it the cosmic harmonic

you laughed

~

just right   the wind and waves

and because it was warm

and because we could   we stayed all night

luckily we brought blankets

was it luck

~

all in one night   stars   clouds   rain

mist

what didn't we see

dawn

we slept through dawn

~

caught unaware by the moon's eclipse

we puzzled

over its fading before our eyes

that was years ago

and here we are

~

i wished upon your eyelash

later

we slept   entangled in sheets

the heat of the night intense

that was my wish

~

all day i watched clouds

and waited

all evening i listened to crickets

your letter didn't arrive

i had hoped it might

By night, the splendors of love; by day, nothing clouds and crickets: I hate when that happens! And both happening to linger on the same chilly beach seemed so promising!

Wonderfully articulated. I like the form, as I've mentioned before in another poem where you've used it. Of course, the constellations, and the authentic irreplaceable details, "i wished upon your eyelash" and "all evening i listened to crickets." Bravissimo!

You write such wistful tender images, one after the other. To watch and recognise the constellations to tha south is such a romantic touch. Perhaps the letter never came, but the memoey would be unforgettable. A poem that makes the reader sigh.~~

Such a fine painting through words. I especially liked the reference of constellations, and yes, cosmic harmonic made me smile. The letter never arrived, though. Sad.
