Songs of the Gamelan

The shadow puppets

dance on the

timbre

of the songs

of the Gamelan.

Toe tapping rhythms

lance the light

amber

in a pendapa

of glass

where shadow puppets

absorb the resonance

of metal chambers

made of brass,

hostages

in the puppeteer's

grasp.

Dear Mel,

What a dark and menacing poem to announce your long overdue return to the Bay; I admire this piece of neo-gothic, magic lanternesque delight!

With best wishes,

Chris

PS I have truly missed you.
