Cape Town
You awake in the early morning sunWith cigarette buds and empty bottles
A dog that barks, and the birds that sing
The waves crashing on the beach, the harbour wall
Your streets fill with light, even in the shadows
It's the buzz of a city, the individual collective
It's the art, the poetry, and music within you
Your magical beauty triumphs civilisation
With your sails of freedom transcending society
The birth place of my mother tongue
You've inspired every facet, every tale
A witness of time, of a nation renewed
You awaken me from within with secret gifts
You feed my soul, and seduce my heart
You are the fuel for my inspiration
My interpretations a gift governed by you!
