The Beloved Boy
He came running,
grabbed my legs
“Please don’t go”
He was crying.
He was but a four year old boy.
The look on his face
I could not face
Stealing my eyes away
Innocent questions of life
Difficult to answer
The teary eyes were those
Filled with love and sadness
The knees that grew too weak
To stand upon its own
On my knees I hugged him
Wanted to say
How much I love him
But then what kind of man
would say it, then leave
I could only say
“I will return, for you I will
Oh don’t say a word, no more”
I could see it in his eyes
I was breaking his heart
Like it a vicious cycle
Of breaking each other’s heart.
He will learn I thought
Or maybe he will never
Maybe it will always be that hard
To part from someone we love.
