A reflective monologue on free will and the philosophical and existential dilemma between success and failure; hope and despair; and life and death.
our sole reason for being here
despite our lives' most hoped-for joy;
can conflict's path remove what's dear
(to our tired souls),—and make us coy
about a dream that's so, so near?
We, people who live for new hope
(and seek peace in the face of strife),
together struggle to just cope
and succeed, as if no one life
is beyond saving in the scope
of the edge of the Reaper's knife.
It would be more final to die,
than to live and thrive and so give
ourselves the gift of knowing why;
we sacrifice and must survive,
than let success just pass us by
with no chance to ever arrive.

A Monologue on Free Will and Choice
Between life and death, we destroyour sole reason for being here
despite our lives' most hoped-for joy;
can conflict's path remove what's dear
(to our tired souls),—and make us coy
about a dream that's so, so near?
We, people who live for new hope
(and seek peace in the face of strife),
together struggle to just cope
and succeed, as if no one life
is beyond saving in the scope
of the edge of the Reaper's knife.
It would be more final to die,
than to live and thrive and so give
ourselves the gift of knowing why;
we sacrifice and must survive,
than let success just pass us by
with no chance to ever arrive.
