Appraisal


i wonder what you'd say
if you got a letter from
a nobody
clothed modestly with
humble truth

could you see past your wall
or would all words fail
to find purchase?

i wonder what you'd say
if a somebody
wrote you a letter
dressed to kill with
fetching lies

would you kill the fattest calf
split your kingdom, give them half?
i think you might

Economical, shapely language that exerts a certain magnetism over the reader ... I am glad to have read this poem!

I love the use of rhetoric questions throughout the poem. I think the last line, however, dilutes the effect. How about ending the poem with a strong effect of a series of rhetoric questions? Just my thought.
